If your receiver can manually switch between different surround modes, make sure you select Dolby Digital 5.1 and that (duh) your 5 (or 6 if you have a subwoofer) speakers are correctly wired. Make sure the DVD you play has a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack (some older titles only have Dolby Digital 2 - Pro-logic to you and me) and that you select to play the DVD with the 5.1 audio track (the feature's audio setup screen will present the choices if Digital 5.1 is not the sole audio track available - DTS or Digital 2.0 in a foreign language are common alternatives. Make sure you enable SPDIF in all the right places on your system (WINDVD Audio Properties, Soundcard setting, there may even be two registry settings that need to be checked but I can't be 100% sure.
